NARKANDA is a town which is about 72 km away from Shimla. This place is known for its beautiful mountains and various panoramic destinations. Due to the overcrowding in places like Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala, etc. the best option to go for the vacations is Narkanda. So here are some of the best places to visit in Narkanda.
1. HATU PEAK
Hatu peak is one of the most beautiful destinations of district Shimla that is surrounded with deodars, oaks and maple trees. Every year more than 50000 people come to visit this place which tells why this is one of the best places to visit in Narkanda as well as in Himachal. So Hatu Peak is about 8 km away from the main market of Narkanda.
It is at the height of around 3400 meters above the sea level which makes it the highest peak of district Shimla. On the way to Hatu peak, there is a place called “JHAMUNDA” also known as “GUJJAR KOTHA” which is one of the main attraction of Hatu Peak.
During summers Gujjars use to come here with their buffaloes and stay here till the winters arrive. “Jaw Bagh” is also another point of attraction which one must not ignore. This makes it one of the best places to visit in Narkanda.
2. TAANI JUBBAD LAKE
In Shimla district, there are only two-three lakes and Taani Jubbad lake is one of them. It,s around 15 km away from the main market of Narkanda which takes around 40 minutes to reach by car. It is in the village of “JAROL AND TIKKER” It is a beautiful lake in between the dense forest of deodars. This is an artificial manmade lake. It is best recommended for a picnic as it is an open space where one can spend a good time with their family and friends.
There is a small temple that is dedicated to “NAAG DEVTA” to whom locals offer their prayers. I would definitely recommend this for camping where travelers can set up their tents and stay for a night or two. The lake showcases its beauty at its best when the sky is clear and the place is covered with snow which makes it worth the best place to visit in Narkanda. So this is the region of Himachal Pradesh from where the Apple Farming was originated. This is one of the most leading region for apple trading. Not only nationally but internationally also.
You will find the beautiful view of mountains, villages and apple orchards on the way to the taani-jubbad lake. Many shoots of songs, movies, and short films are filmed here.
3. CHRIST CHURCH, KOTGARH
Christ church in Kotgarh is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Narkanda. Kotgarh is around 18 km away from Narkanda on the same way to Taani Jubbad lake. During the British company rule in India they made this church. This church has also seen many wars that have occurred in that region that makes this place a must visit the place.
Currently, this Church is under a missionary school named as GORTON MISSION SCHOOL which is one of the oldest schools of Himachal Pradesh established in 1843. This school itself has a great history which one must know.
Christ Church of Kotgarh is the only church that you will find in this region.
4. APPLE ORCHARDS, THANEDHAR
Thanedhar is around 20 km away from Narkanda main market that is famous for its apple orchards. You will be glad to know that this is the place from where the apple plantation started in Himachal Pradesh (maybe in India). There are very beautiful apple gardens that are enough to grab any one’s attention and is indeed the best place to visit in Narkanda
SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLACE
It is the region from where the apple plantation originated. There was an Englishman named as SAMUEL STOKES who came to India to understand its culture and to know its problems.
Later on, he fell in love with a local Rajput Lady and got married to her. He had the knowledge of apple plantation. He gave it a try in that region and results are here in front of us today. Later on, he converted his religion to Hindu and changed his name from SAMUEL to Satyanand Stokes. He also participated in many Indian revolutions, wars and has been put in jail many times.
He died just before the independence in 1947.
5. DAARO VILLAGE
If you are interested in knowing the village life and the culture of this region, then this village is a must to go for. Daaro is a small village near Narkanda that is around 9 – 10 km from the main market of Narkanda.
On your way to Daaro village you will see the path is vey scenic and is covered with dense forest, small waterfalls, and view of beautiful mountains which makes the path even more beautiful.
There are many other small villages on the way which you will see once you enter into that region. Here also the main occupation of the people is farming. Once you will enter the village you will see how people work. This is the region where you will find the densest forest.

6. DHOMRI SKI SLOPE
Dhomri is a very famous skiing slope of Narkanda. Many state and national level skiing events have occurred here. Dhomri is around 700-800 meters away from the main market of Narkanda. In winters, this place gets covered with snow and the place get filled with skiers. During summers many activities like camping, trekking, etc are done here. Many sports events such as cricket, kabaddi, etc use to take place here.
There is a small ground where all the activities take place. The ground is in between the dense forest of deodars.
This is the best place to go for an evening walk and to spend time with friends and family.
7. SHRIKOT TREK
Shrikot is another peak of Narkanda that is at a low height and can be summited by anyone very easily. It is around 1 or 2 km trek from the main market. This place will give you a very nice 360-degree view of Narkanda.
I would recommend you to go to this place because this place is not known by most of the people which makes it more interesting and a must place to visit in Narkanda.
Ekantbaari is a small village that is on the way to Narkanda from Shimla, around 5 km before Narkanda. This place is famous for its beautiful cherry orchards and apple orchards. A beautiful waterfall in Ekantbaari, which put this place into the list of best places to visit in Narkanda. Although it is not a very big place to explore still this place is worth to have a cup of coffee or tea at. There are many campsites where you can stay and have the experience of tents. This place offers you a very beautiful view of the mountains and green forest.
9. A WALK TO TETHYS RESORT
There is a resort called as Tethys resort in Narkanda that is around 3 km away from the main market. If you want to have a nice walk or you want to do some offroad cycling then the way to that resort is the best you can opt for. It is a raw road with no vehicles in it. The pleasant sound of birds and fresh air is its USP. There is a ground on the way where you can take rest and just enjoy the mesmerizing view of Hatu Peak.
Sidhpoor is another place that is around 15 km away from Narkanda which is famous for various adventure activities. Many activities such as gun shooting, cannon ball, zip lining, hiking etc. are famous of this place.
But I would recommend to go only in the tourist season there as the activities are only available in the tourist season.
11. NATURE CAMP
Nature camps are the camps that are in between the beautiful jungle of Narkanda. It,s around 2km away from the main market of Narkanda. It Is just on the left side of the road when you go there from Narkanda. It is a perfect location for photography. You can have little jungle trek from here also.
12. DETHU TEMPLE
Dethu temple is one of the oldest temple of narkanda. It is in the mid of dense forest on the way to Rampur around 6-7 km (not exactly sure) from the main market of Narkanda. The best time to witness the beauty of this place is to go in winters. Though it is not at all easy to go there in winters but the best view comes after walking the hardest path.
13. KACHERI MATA TEMPLE
Kacheri is around 11 km away from the main market of narkanda and is famous for kacheri mata temple. This temple is in the mid of a village named as “kacheri”. Here you can see the local culture in depth because of its strong traditional customs. There are many orchards also in the village also. People are very friendly and helpful, so you will find no problem in exploring this place.
